Hello fall!

Autumn has always been my very favourite season. To me, fall feels like a new beginning – a time to slow down after a busy summer, enjoy comfort foods and comfort clothes, and take some time to re-evaluate life before the days get shorter and darker.

Throw in some September beach days, family birthdays, Thanksgiving and Halloween and I’m happy… until we get into the miserable, rain, sleet and snow of November that is.

This fall is hitting differently. It feels like a much-needed break after a more “normal” summer than the past two years – a summer packed full of events and activities, combined with the hope and optimism of going into a “regular” school year for our kids after two years of uncertainty.

While this all feels like great news, uncertainty is still rearing its ugly head in the form of pandemic-related supply chain issues, directly affecting the publishing industry. While it becomes more challenging every issue to get a print product in our readers’ hands, we are committed to persevering to celebrate the 11th anniversary of Grey-Bruce Kids in December. I’m so proud of our team, and thank our readers and advertisers for their continued support.

In this issue, we have an in-depth question and answer session about Individual Education Plans with System Special Education Lead Teachers at Bluewater District School Board. We have a great story from the Nuclear Innovation Institute about how students are preparing for careers as climate change heroes right here at home – something previous generations would have to live in the city to do.

Grey Bruce Public Health has also provided us with ways for our students to stay healthy once back in the classroom, while Settlement and Language Services, which operates through the Owen Sound YMCA, brings great news about how welcoming our schools, their administration and staff have been to new Canadians. We also have a wonderful story about finding joy in kite-flying, through the eyes of a Stratford man born in the middle of the Second World War.

We hope you enjoy this issue as much as I’ll enjoy the autumn weather!
